We (Juniata College) considered using the ACAT for that purpose, but based on the review copy we decided not to adopt it. They'll send you one if you ask. We are considering the FG ASBOG exam now but cost is an issue. I like the practice exam they have on their website and would appreciate hearing anyone's experiences with this.

Greetings, All:
Does anyone have experience with, or knowledge of, the ACAT geology exam, specifically its use as an end-of-program assessment? I'm curious, as I just recently learned of its use as a less-expensive alternative to the ASBOG exam.

Greetings all -
It was wonderful working with you last week at the InTeGrate workshop on Geoscience and the 21st Century Workforce. I learned a tremendous amount from all of you and am very excited about the vision we have in place for next steps. I understand that many of you got the opportunity to have extended post-workshop interactions at the Harrisburg Airport. I hope that the opportunity to talk further helped balance out the pain of the delay.

I have now updated the workshop summary based on the comments in the discussion thread. http://serc.carleton.edu/integrate/workshops/workforce2013/part_workspace/fri-summary.html
If you could take a look and send any feedback by next Friday July 12 we will move forward in making the page live.

You will see that I embedded links to your workspace pages in the summary. Those pages are not yet live. Karin will be working to create live pages from this information, integrating them with the information that existed previously on the Building Strong Geoscience Departments website. I've included links to those resources in the summary as well. If your group would like to be involved in this work please let Karin know. If you had any remaining information that you wanted to make sure got onto your page, please move forward expeditiously and be in touch with Karin.

On the same page with our summary, you will find our action plan (this is not going to go public). Several of the items now have leaders from the workshop conveners or participants. If you are interested in working on these activities, please let us know by contacting either the relevant leader, or sending me an email. This is a great list of next steps and I appreciate your enthusiasm. We will use this list to keep you up to date on progress and to engage you in activities.

The work at this end over the next two months will focus on moving all that we have learned into pages on the public site. We have wonderful information about student pathways to careers, program design, career mentoring, the workforce situation, and the changing role of academia thanks to your contributions to the workshop. We will be in touch as this moves forward. If you have additional resources or references that you would like to see incorporated, you can use the Share a Reference link on the workshop website or send them directly to Karin. If you have ideas for the website, don't hesitate to share them with us.

Lastly, I want to bring to your attention some resources that were completed just before the workshop. We have added information about the workforce for students with an associates degree developed by the SAGE 2YC project to the Workforce Outlook page. Complementing the info on this page are profiles from six of the employers who attended the workshop. They talk in more length about the skills they are looking for in employees and the job outlook in their particular areas. We would like to expand this collection -- if you have suggestions of individuals who would be good additions to the list, please let Karin know. Finally, David Gosselin, unable to make it to the workshop produced two pages of interest -- one on learning outcomes and a second on competencies vs learning outcomes. We welcome your feedback on all of these pages and suggestions for what would make them move valuable to you.

This email list distributes to all who participated in the workshop. Any member of the list can post to the list. I encourage you to make use of it to continue workshop discussions, to ask questions, and to learn from one another. While email lists are pretty simple technology, they are the best networking tool we know of.

Thank you again. We made some great strides.

Happy 4th!!

Cathy
